Team 34, Collins and Crumbley, scratch outside in Kiana

Team 34, the Kotzebue racers who were welcomed into their home checkpoint so heartily on Monday night, scratched outside of Kiana this afternoon. Racers Chris Collins and Jesse Crumbley came through Kiana in good spirits, fueled up and kept going. Not long after, according to the checkpoint volunteer, they were back.

Crumbley crashed off his sled, losing his windshield and other parts, so the two returned to Kiana. He declined medical care at the Kiana clinic. Collins refueled and is heading back to Kotzebue.

Team 34’s scratch is the 12th of Iron Dog 37.. Seventeen teams remain in the race.
