SEVEN TIME IRON DOG CHAMPION RETURNS
Longest racing Iron Dog veteran, Scott Davis to race again in 2015.Anchorage. The excitement continues to build for Iron Dog 2015 with the announcement of new events, new locations, new products and plenty of great competitors. One of Iron Dog’s most veteran racers, Scott Davis has announced that he will be racing again this year in hopes of becoming the first and only racer to hold eight championships. Scott will replace Gordon Bartel of Team 7 to ride again with Aaron Bartel – both riding on the just announced Ski-Doo MXZ Iron Dog Special snowmobiles.“We are excited to see Scott in the race again this year. His presence adds excitement to the many new plans and products for this year while preserving a connection to the roots of the earliest Iron Dog days. It’s important to remember that while he may be the most veteran racer, Scott is a strong competitor and should always be considered a potential podium winner.” said Kevin Kastner, Executive Director.
Davis has been competing in Iron Dog since its inception in 1984, as a 1,000-mile race. The course changed to 2,000 miles in 1994.Davis holds a record seven championships — in 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2007 — with five different partners, has 20 career top-three finishes and is the only continuously participating racer who was in the first Iron Dog and is still racing today. The only other racer to share the record seven championships is John Faeo.“Racing Iron Dog is in my blood. Aaron and I are fortunate to have a great support team with primary sponsors GCI and TeamCC Ski-Doo as well as the never-ending support of our friends and families. I am very excited to represent BRP riding the new purpose-built Iron Dog sled.” Davis said.Davis and Faeo were also nominated for the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame this year, but did not make the final selection. Iron Dog was also nominated and selected for the 2015 Hall of Fame. Iron Dog will be the first motorsports event to be inducted at a ceremony to be held March 5th.More ceremonial plans are in development to call attention to the history of the Iron Dog this year. Until the next announcement, be sure to watch Team 7 and 36 other teams depart from 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage this February 21st.
