Nome Raises the Iron Dog Stakes

Anchorage, Alaska, U.S.A., 28 January 2011The Iron Dog Race purse continues to increase as the teams prepare to race for the gold in Nome.The Iron Dog race purse total for 2011 bests its previous record high of $194,500 announced just weeks ago. In addition to Donlin Creek’s $10,000 Gold Rush prize, two new prizes have just been awarded from the City of Nome and Bering Sea Lions Club that will raise the purse by another $8,000. The grand total purse is now $202,500.“All of us at the Iron Dog are completely thrilled and humbled to have such amazing support from our halfway checkpoint.”, says Kevin Kastner, Executive Director. “Nome has been a long time supporter of the Iron Dog and this level of support demonstrates the warm reception our racers, families and fans have come to enjoy each year.”The two new cash prizes from the City of Nome will be awarded to the second and third place teams Pro Class teams as follows: 2nd Place ($3,000) and 3rd Place ($2,000)The new cash prize of $3,000 from the Bering Sea Lions Club will be awarded to the Pro Class team with the fastest official time between White Mountain and Nome.Nome Prizes for 2011
