Iron Dog 2021 and COVID-19

It just wouldn’t be iron Dog unless there were some obstacles to overcome…and this year the obstacles are unique and more challenging than ever. It’s going to take all of us to make this work.

It is our sincere goal to stage the race this year, and one that is staged with extreme caution. It may look different than in year’s past, but the changes being made are designed to protect our friends in the checkpoints, racers, sponsors and fans. Please be patient as we strive to adjust to the seemingly daily changes in how to best deal with this pandemic, and please send us your best insights so we may render those ideas down into a best practice.

We will consider all reasonable options that will allow the race to proceed safely. We have not ruled out postponing the event, but that is our last resort. The Exhibition Class is slated to leave Big Lake on Feb. 11, 2021, while the Pro Class will leave Feb. 13, 2021.

All Pro and Exhibition class riders, as well as any traveling Iron Dog volunteers, race crew and officials, will be tested before leaving the starting chute.

At this time, we do not anticipate hosting any indoor public activities.

We anticipate that stakeholders may have questions or concerns about the necessary modifications we are making to this year’s race. Please bear in mind that our plans are evolving and subject to change, particularly as the circumstances of the pandemic change. We're doing the best we can to protect our community and those around us and still find a way to have a race. That being said, please don't hesitate to contact Kelli Cherrier at Kelli@irondog.org with any reasonable ideas or insights. Browse www.irondog.org, where we will post a detailed plan shortly.
